In the perennial quest to lessen parking woes and provide easy transport between downtown, Channel District and Ybor City, HART Line announced the TECO Line Streetcar System will now be free on Saturdays 11 am to 1:30 am on Sunday mornings now through Sept. 2018. This service is a 2.7-mile electric streetcar line that features historical replica streetcars of the original Tampa Streetcar Line and makes it easy to get to more destinations within the three areas.
Interest in the system has been gaining in recent years and there’s been several steps taken to heighten that. Recently, the TECO Line Streetcar System announced it would extend service on event nights and Lightning games at Amalie Arena until midnight on weeknight or Sundays at Amalie Arena. The Gasparilla Music Festival added appeal to the service in 2014 when it started its popular rolling concert series featuring live music from local musicians on the first Saturday of the month from 5-7 pm. An annual Streetcar Fest celebrates with activities along the line at the streetcar stops. This year’s Fest is Sat., Oct. 21.
In progress is an FDOT, City of Tampa and HART study on extending the streetcar system throughout the downtown area and North to Marion Transit Center.
