Call for Cedar Key Old Florida Celebration of the Arts Festival

The Old Florida Celebration of the Arts will take place March 30 & 31, 2019 on historic 2nd Street in Cedar Key, an island community on Florida’s Gulf Coast 60 miles SW of Gainesville on Hwy 24. This juried event, attracts ~ 20,000 visitors annually and offers over $18,000 in prize money and purchase awards. The town’s beachfront City Park is filled with music, children’s activities, and food sold by local non-profit organizations.

Our decision to move the event to the last weekend in March is based on the fact that we draw a larger crowd in March, had the highest artist satisfaction rates when the event was in March and the date will not have to be changed as often because of Easter. Based on 2018 artist input we are taking steps to improve our WiFi capabilities at the venue, and the running time of the festival will remain from 10am to 5pm Saturday, and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
 
General Information
Established in 1964 and formerly known as the Cedar Key Sidewalk Arts Festival, this event was revived in 2006 – returning to a juried fine arts show. Since then the event’s reputation has grown and the festival has become one of the most charming shows in Florida. The jury fee is $25 and upon acceptance, each booth space is $175. Fine Artist and Artisans in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.  Country crafts and production work is not acceptable at this event.

Complimentary amenities include breakfast both mornings and a private Artist’s Reception and Awards Ceremony with food and drinks Saturday evening sponsored by the Cedar Key Arts Center Sculpture Garden. Friendly volunteers assist with set-up and take-down and are there to assist artists throughout the weekend as “block captains.”  

120 artists will be invited through the jury process. Artists will be notified by December 15, 2018. Artist must respond and pay booth fee by January 15, 2019. A short wait list will be maintained but only used if the expected number of artists falls below 120.

Rules
•All work must be original design of the accepted artist.
•Accepted artists must be present at our event Saturday and Sunday. No proctors will be allowed.
•A high proportion of original artwork is expected to be available in booths. Reproductions must be of the same artistic quality as juried work and can make up no more than 20% of the hung artwork.
•Ineligible Entries: Country crafts, works which are mass produced or manufactured, made from commercial molds, kits or patterns, commercial displays, taxidermy, crocheting, knitting, velvet painting, manufactured or kit jewelry, candles, ceramics from commercial molds, and art supplies.  Buy/sell or imports will not be tolerated.
