The Arts Council welcomed Sandra Sroka to its Board of Directors October 25. Ms. Sroka was appointed by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners to a four-year term and joins 14 other BOCC-appointed members and five ex-officio members.
Ms. Sroka has more than thirty years of administrative experience in the health and disability fields both in the public and private sector. Until her semi-retirement, she served as the Americans with Disabilities Act Liaison for Hillsborough County where she was responsible for ensuring the County’s compliance with the federal ADA and other disability rights laws, and more recently, is serving as the Adult Program Coordinator for Arts4All Florida (formerly VSA Florida).
Prior to her employment with Hillsborough County, she was marketing director in the regional healthcare environment, an executive director of the Mental Health Association, and director of a federally funded state pilot program for the elderly.
“We are so delighted to have Sandra joining the Arts Council’s Board at this time,” said Martine Meredith Collier, Arts Council Executive Director. “Sandra’s background and skills are ideally aligned with the goal of our Strategic Plan to develop systems surrounding cultural equity and inclusion to ensure that every citizen in Hillsborough County has equitable access to arts and culture.”
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Ms. Sroka has been a staunch advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities through her past leadership roles in local and statewide organizations and became involved with the League of Women Voters where she has served on the LWVHC Board for several years focusing on community engagement through education and advocacy and is the Immediate Past President.
