Seventeen nonprofit arts organizations will receive more than $300,000 in grants from a program designed to support Hillsborough County arts and culture. The organizations answered a call for applications in May and were selected through a competitive process by a team of experienced arts professionals.
“The range of groups that responded bridge all disciplines and represent both large and small organizations with some of our area’s finest talent,” said Martine Meredith Collier, executive director of Hillsborough County’s Arts Council.
The program offers awards of $15,000, $20,000 and $30,000 and allows recipients to use the funds for general program support, a rarity among funding programs. The grants are especially important this year, a year in which the State of Florida’s arts funding was decimated.
“That’s why we broadened the qualification for funding through this program in addition to creating a separate, new grant opportunity with smaller awards for specific projects,” added Collier.
Both programs are funded by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and managed by the Arts Council.
