Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Petersburg is utilizing memorial donations to commission a permanent outdoor art sculpture to honor the memory of Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Leslie Weiss and their children Hannah and Ari who perished in a tragic plane crash in Costa Rica, December 31, 2017.
This Art Sculpture will be placed in our outdoor courtyard, in a grassy area next to an herb and vegetable garden. We envision a bright and happy piece that reflects one or more passions of the Weiss family: sustainability, child health, guitar music and social justice. We will give special consideration to proposals that include an interactive element for children (an outdoor classroom area is planned nearby).
Artist Compensation: $10,000 including all materials and installation.
Size: Artist’s discretion, 4-6 feet tall by 3-6 feet wide.
Sculpture Proposals Due: August 1, 2018 to include: Artist CV/resume with artist contact information; 3 to 5 images of past works; Statement of Interest outlining interest and qualifications for this project; Description and Sketches of proposed art piece including materials, budget, timeline and requirements for installation and maintenance.
