Susan Gott’s Green ARTery Art Glass Benches Installed

Posted on Posted in All Posts

Congratulations to Susan Gott, Phoenix Glass Studio, on the completion of her public art project for the Green ARTery-Perimeter Trail. The two-year project is a series of glass art and terrazzo benches installed as public seating along a 22-mile nature trail looping through the historic heart of the city.

The benches feature embedded art glass surface designs created in Susan’s Phoenix Glass Studio and incorporated into a colorful terrazzo finish. Part functional, part sculpture, the benches are located in the Seminole Heights neighborhood. The Canoe Bench is in a spot overlooking the Hillsborough River in Ignacio Haya Linear Park. The Naiad of the Spring Bench is located next to a children’s playground and small brook in Patterson Park.

Susan received a $3000 grant from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County in 2015 to start the program. Additional support was provided by Steward-Mellon, the City of Tampa Art Programs Division, the Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association, the Green Artery and private donations.
