Students discover new abilities to design and create their own piece of jewelry under the guidance of a professional jeweler. Dan's classes focus on projects that students can complete and develop confidence. Students must be at least 9 years old. A care taker must participate. Both adult and child create their pieces of jewelry together. This basic introduction to jewelry making class introduces students to a metalsmith’s studio, his tools and materials and learning shop safety. This is a beginner class to hand fabricate a set of pendants, rings or bracelets together. Learning and making memories that can be passed as heirlooms, this is a rare chance to talk with an artist in the jewelry studio. Dan Balk, has opened his jewelry studio for basic silversmithing classes 7 days a week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. No experience is needed. Reservations are required. Each class is approximately 3 hours long. Students learn about jewelry in Dan's fully equipped jewelry studio. Classes are one-on-one.   The parent/child class is $300.00 and includes supplies. Students will go home with their finished silver piece. The class is $450.00 per couple, and supplies are included. Couples will go home with their finished jewelry. Gemstones may be added for an additional fee. In the Couples Jewelry Class, participants will develop hands-on education in hand fabrication using raw materials. Partners will gain awareness and practice in shop safety, design, creating silver sheets and wires, soldering and forming, and metal cutting. This workshop takes a unique approach to the world of photography introducing beginner and intermediate level photographers to the essential techniques of exposure and composition as well as photographic documentation through the use of presentations, weekly photo assignments, and one on one guidance. Students photograph a variety of subjects in and around the museum, including Portraiture, Landscapes and Architecture. This class is for people of all ages with little or no experience in photography, or for those seeking to renew their knowledge on the basics. You will be instructed on: – Fine Art Photography – Camera & Lens – Automatic vs Manual Shooting Modes – Color Temperature (White Balance – Focus and Depth of Field – Light and Exposure – Freezing Action vs Creating Movement – Composition, Content and Photographic Storytelling – Basic Photo Editing – Online Sharing Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites for the workshop; however, since all camera models have different control layouts, students are expected to know how to find and adjust three exposure settings in their camera: Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. While a DSLR camera is preferred, any digital camera capable of manual control of Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO will work. Students with cameras that have no way to control these three exposure settings (i.e.: point-and-shoot cameras) will not get the full benefit of the workshop. A tripod is also strongly recommended. Dan is enrolling beginner students, hobbyists, and the artistically adventurous to hand make jewelry in sterling silver in his 1-Day classes. Students discover new abilities to design and create their own piece of jewelry under the guidance of a professional jeweler. Dan's classes focus on projects that students can complete and develop confidence. Students must be at least 9 years old. A care taker must participate. Both adult and child create their pieces of jewelry together. This basic introduction to jewelry making class introduces students to a metalsmith’s studio, his tools and materials and learning shop safety. This is a beginner class to hand fabricate a set of pendants, rings or bracelets together. Learning and making memories that can be passed as heirlooms, this is a rare chance to talk with an artist in the jewelry studio. Dan Balk, has opened his jewelry studio for basic silversmithing classes 7 days a week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. No experience is needed. Reservations are required. Each class is approximately 3 hours long. Students learn about jewelry in Dan's fully equipped jewelry studio. In the Couples Jewelry Class, participants will develop hands-on education in hand fabrication using raw materials. This workshop takes a unique approach to the world of photography introducing beginner and intermediate level photographers to the essential techniques of exposure and composition as well as photographic documentation through the use of presentations, weekly photo assignments, and one on one guidance. Students photograph a variety of subjects in and around the museum, including Portraiture, Landscapes and Architecture. This class is for people of all ages with little or no experience in photography, or for those seeking to renew their knowledge on the basics. You will be instructed on: – Fine Art Photography – Camera & Lens – Automatic vs Manual Shooting Modes – Color Temperature (White Balance – Focus and Depth of Field – Light and Exposure – Freezing Action vs Creating Movement – Composition, Content and Photographic Storytelling – Basic Photo Editing – Online Sharing Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites for the workshop; however, since all camera models have different control layouts, students are expected to know how to find and adjust three exposure settings in their camera: Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. While a DSLR camera is preferred, any digital camera capable of manual control of Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO will work. Students with cameras that have no way to control these three exposure settings (i.e.: point-and-shoot cameras) will not get the full benefit of the workshop. A tripod is also strongly recommended.
