The Amalie Arena and the Tampa Bay Lightning have announced the sixth annual Open Call to Artists competition!
During the first five years of the program, they have proudly displayed 200 pieces of locally created art throughout the building for 1.5 million annual visitors to admire. All the artwork has been for sale, with proceeds going directly to the artist.
Now, they are looking for artwork to display in the 2017-2018 season and again invite all emerging and established local artists to submit pieces of original artwork. There is a special, separate category for artists under 18 years of age.
The exhibit’s goal is to display images that embrace and celebrate the greater Tampa Bay community, and that reflect the vibrancy of the area. Though not required, images that creatively incorporate Lightning hockey are welcome!
Please note the submission deadline of September 7, 2017. A jury composed of representatives from the Tampa Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Dali museum and the Ringling Museum will select the pieces for display on IOA Suite Level. Artists will be notified by September 23, 2017 if accepted into the exhibition.
In addition to being displayed in the building, there is the opportunity to win a cash prize. The top three overall ranked artwork pieces, as scored by the judges, will receive cash prizes of $1,000 each, honorable mentions ranked in the top ten will receive $250 each and the top three pieces from the youth category (under 18 years old) will receive $250. All artists will be invited to a reception this Fall at the unveiling of the artwork pieces.
